I have made this jewel with antique gold rhombus settings cut especially for this piece with a brass textured bar surround applied as edging. In the centre I have laser engraved a copy of the Christ image as shown on the original and I have added a grooved oval blue lapis lazuli cabochon set in brass. This is a high grade, 20 ct crystal semi precious gemstone. Inside the settings I have set 12 faux pearls to edge the piece. I have used cotton waxed cord for the necklace. This piece is hand crafted from start to finish. The lapis are genuine gemstones and may vary from the picture.
The original Middleham Jewel is a late 15th-century gold pendant, set with a large blue sapphire stone. The lozenge-shaped pendant is engraved with a religious scene. It was discovered by a metal detectorist in 1985 near Middleham Castle, the northern home of Richard III, and acquired by the Yorkshire Museum in York for £2.5 million.
My replica comes in my jewellery box to protect the piece and is also perfect for gifting.
